My Texas Star

My Texas Star
43” x 44” 2001

Except for a few heirloom sampler quilts I made for Martha Pullen Co., this was my first “real” quilt. I made it for my husband’s Christmas gift the first year we were married. He spent his growing-up years in Texas, and has a great fondness for that state. He’s my Texas star! The quilt features a pieced Lone Star center, with fused and machine appliquéd yellow roses and bluebonnets, also symbolizing Texas. The bluebonnets are an adaptation of a design from Wildflower Album by Bea Oglesby, 2000, AQS, and the roses were inspired by a Husqvarna Viking machine embroidery design. The Celtic designs on the quilt are original, and reflect Mark’s Celtic ancestry. Sprinkled throughout the quilt, and used for the backing, is the Texas State Flower fabric by Northcott. Machine pieced, appliquéd, and quilted.
