Heirloom Dreams

Heirloom Dreams
56” x 55” 2004

This quilt was my first attempt at quilting for competition. I wanted to make a quilt which incorporated some of the heirloom sewing techniques for which I was known, and that would have an overall look of lace. A top layer of white Swiss batiste was embellished with shaped French Val lace, lace/rickrack bridging, shaped puffing, shaped bias linen strips, linen appliquéd border, pinstitching, entredeux stitching, and machine embroidery from Husqvarna Viking. This was layered over light blue batiste to create the quilt top. Trapunto floral designs repeat the machine embroidery shapes. Shell-stitched piping outlines the scalloped bound edges. This quilt won first place in the Computer-Aided Machine Embroidery category at Houston International Quilt Festival 2004, was juried into American Quilter’s Society judged show in 2005, and was featured in Creative Expressions magazine, Issue 7. Machine stitched, embroidered, and quilted.
