(children’s 6 months – size 12)

This classically simple dress and christening gown feature deep released tucks from the shoulder to mid-yoke level on both front and back, which is closed with buttons and thread loops. The sleeves also incorporate released tucks to hold in the fullness from the puffed cap; the cuff is then finished with tiny piping and gathered edging. The baby gown sleeves are simply gathered into an entredeux/gathered edging cuff. A traditional Peter Pan collar is finished with piping and gathered edging. Use plain fabric for a simple look, or choose a stripe or plaid and pleat out one or more colors for a uniquely beautiful garment. Embellishment is carried farther on the gown. Vines and roses are repeated throughout the dress. On the bodice, serpentine double-needle pintucks are stitched between every tuck, and bullion roses are embroidered at the bottom of the pintucks where the deep tucks are released into the skirt. The vining pintucks and roses are repeated on the sleeves, and a tiny rose is stitched on each half of the collar. Between the wide edging at the dress hem and a strip of insertion several inches above it, a bias linen strip winds around the hem, repeating the vine motif, with roses embroidered in the curves. Under the dress is an empire waist slip with a plain gathered skirt. The neck and armholes are finished with narrow lace edging. The lower edge of the slip extends about five inches below the hem of the skirt, and is finished with wide edging and the curvy pintuck stitching.
